The Great Butler Mound is an Adena Indian earthworks in Madison Township, Butler County. The mound is believed to have been a watch and signal point and excavations in 1879 found evidence to support the use of the mound for signal fires.
Originally the mound had a height of 43 feet and a circumference of 511 feet, but excavation and farm crop encroachment have reduced it. At it's original size, it is the largest mound in Butler County and one of the largest in southwestern Ohio.
While the property has changed hands several times over the years, it was eventually acquired by a historic preservation organization. Butler County Metroparks reportedly hopes to acquire the property.
