This is a marker on the Great Miami Recreation Trail which follows the Miami Erie Canal towpath at this location. The Louisville, Cincinnati and Dayton Railroad (LCD) founded in 1885 and ran along the canal as railroads started to replace canals. The railroad was nicknamed both "Long, crooked and dirty" and the "The Pumpkin Vine" both because the line followed the winding route of the canal. The remaining railbed is visible across the canal and is part of the park's Pumpkin Vine trail.
