The 1868-1869 Black Covered Bridge spanning Four Mile (Tallawanda) Creek near Oxford is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Recognized as one of the longest, most impressive covered bridges in Ohio and the only covered bridge in Butler County that remains on its original site, Black Covered Bridge is unique for its construction which used two truss types within the same structure. The bridge once carried horses and wagons across Four Mile Creek to James B. Pugh’s saw and grist mill; now it carries joggers and bicycle riders across the creek as part of the Black Bridge Connector of the Oxford Recreation Trail.
